Kurtág | Kafka | Kaffka

November 17 @ 19:00 - 21:00

Kafka-Fragmente by György Kurtág is a masterpiece of late twentieth–century vocal music. The Hungarian composer, who celebrates his hundredth birthday this year, set fragments from Franz Kafka’s letters, diaries, and aphorisms in their original German. Lasting almost an hour, the work comprises forty sections, ranging in length from a dozen or so seconds to seven minutes. The evening will conclude with readings of Kafka’s letters to Milena by actors, in translations by Feliks Konopka and Elżbieta Ptaszyńska-Sadowska, alongside poems and excerpts from letters by the Hungarian poet Margit Kaffka, translated by Anna Butrym especially for this occasion.
