Yaroslav Shemet is one of Poland’s most highly regarded symphonic and opera conductors, distinguished by his ability to build orchestral ensembles and for his transparent, architecturally conceived interpretations. With extensive experience in both the symphonic and operatic repertoire, he serves as Artistic Director of the Silesian Philharmonic in Katowice and Music Director of the Baltic Opera in Gdańsk, making him the youngest director in the history of both institutions. From 2020 to 2022, he was Principal Guest Conductor of the Neue Philharmonie Hamburg, and in the 2020/2021 season, he served as Chief Conductor of the INSO-Lviv Symphony Orchestra of the Lviv National Philharmonic.
He has been on the conductor’s podium since the age of thirteen, developing an international concert career across Europe and Asia from an early age. He has collaborated with many leading ensembles in Poland and elsewhere in Europe. He has appeared at such venues as the Elbphilharmonie in Hamburg, Konserthuset in Stockholm, the Shanghai Grand Theatre, and the Harbin Opera House, as well as at festivals in Bayreuth, Munich, and Hong Kong.
