A women’s vocal folk ensemble from Nitra founded in 2018 by students of ethnology of the Department of Ethnology and Folklore Studies at the Faculty of Arts of Constantine the Philosopher University in Nitra. Within practical singing courses led for many years by Margita Jágerová, they focused on stylistic interpretation of folk songs from various regions of Slovakia. As their repertoire expanded, they appeared not only in a dedicated program on Rádio Regina in Banská Bystrica, where they made their first recordings, but also at various stage folklore events. The group is led by Margita Jágerová, who also creates individual stage performances. These are partly enriched by the members themselves, who contribute songs from their own regions of origin. As a result, Ulijanky’s repertoire reflects not only regional but also genre diversity in folk songs. In their performances, they emphasize mastery of local stylistic musical elements. The ensemble currently consists of 11 members, including both current and former ethnology students from Nitra who live and work across Slovakia but continue meeting and singing together.
