Modulaire is more than an ensemble. It is a way of making music in which composition, improvisation, and responsibility for a unified sound come together in a single form.
Led by Emil Miszk, the project functions as a modular large ensemble: an international collective that can perform in different configurations while maintaining a common musical language. In this sense, Modulaire is also a European project, founded not on a single common aesthetic but on the ability to listen to differences and build a shared form from them.
Modulaire grows out of the need to be together without giving up one’s own voice. It seeks an alternative to the classically hierarchical model of the large ensemble, creating a space in which different perspectives can coexist, clash, and influence each other.
The works have a clear structure, but they are not fixed. They leave room for decisions, reactions, and attentive listening. Each voice matters, but none exists independently of its responsibility to the ensemble as a whole.
