Although formally associated with the Grand Theatre since the inauguration of its new building in 1967, its roots date back to 1954, when the \u0141\u00f3d\u017a Opera was founded. It was then that the instrumental ensemble began to take shape, eventually evolving into today\u2019s orchestra.   <\/p>\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Over the years, the orchestra has performed the core repertoire of the operatic and symphonic canon. Contemporary music also occupies an important place in its repertoire, and the ensemble has repeatedly participated in Polish and world premieres of new works by composers such as Romuald Twardowski and Krzysztof Penderecki.  <\/p>\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The orchestra\u2019s artistic development has been profoundly shaped by distinguished conductors associated with the \u0141\u00f3d\u017a opera stage, including W\u0142adys\u0142aw Raczkowski, Zygmunt Latoszewski, Bohdan Wodiczko, Bogus\u0142aw Madey, Antoni Wicherek, Tadeusz Wojciechowski, Wojciech Michniewski, Ewa Michnik, Antoni Wit, and Tadeusz Koz\u0142owski.
